What Spain Taught Me About Balance, One Moment at a Time

I just returned from three incredible weeks in Spain, a journey that offered adventure, connection, solitude, and reflection.
The first part of the trip was spent exploring Madrid and Barcelona with my husband and kids. From there, I traveled solo to the Balearic Islands for a week, before meeting up with my brother’s for the final leg of the adventure.
So why am I sharing this with you?
As a mind-body coach, I believe true wellness isn’t about having the “perfect” body or maintaining a flawless mental state. It’s about creating a life plate, a lifestyle rooted in balance, intention, and joy.
Our life plates are made up of many different slices: our health, nutrition, movement, relationships, spirituality, careers, finances, and personal interests. In an ideal world, we’d nourish each area evenly, but life isn’t tidy like that. That’s why it’s essential to pause every so often, check in, and ask: What’s feeling full? What’s running low?

During my solo time in Spain while waiting for my brothers to join, I had space to do just that. Quiet time alone, although sometimes uncomfortable, allowed me to really listen inward. I reflected on where I’ve been, where I stand, and where I want to go. I was reminded that sometimes the clearest insights come when we finally slow down. Clarity is often found in stillness.
I thought back on the week with my husband and kids, realizing just how quickly time moves. Their excitement, our shared moments, and the intentional memories we created filled me with gratitude. I was reminded of how important it is to make the most of time and feeding our relationships.

The final week with my brothers was pure fun….celebrating life, getting in touch with that inner child, lots of laughter, and stepping outside my usual routines. It was a powerful reminder that wellness doesn’t mean rigidity. It means finding your rhythm, honoring your needs, and allowing space for both structure and spontaneity.

This trip was a beautiful snapshot of what I teach: wellness is not about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about tuning in, realigning, and remembering that balance is not static…it’s something we return to again and again.
True wellness comes from intentional lifestyle choices.
So this week, I invite you to check in with your own plate.
What part of your plate feels full and nourished?
What part is asking for a little more attention or care?
What are looking for or craving to invite in?
You don’t have to do it all. You just have to stay in conversation with yourself.
...and that's Sunday's Food for Thought!
